Jonathan Victor Barros (32-1-1, 18 KO) and Celestino Caballero (34-3, 23 KO) will square off on Saturday July 2, 2010 at Polideportivo la Colonia, in Mendoza, Argentina. Barros’ WBA featherweight title will be at stake when two of the top featherweights in the world face off.
Caballero held the WBA super bantamweight title from 2006 to 2009. Caballero added the IBF title to his collection in 2008. In 2009 Caballero moved up to the featherweight division and scored a unanimous decision victory over Daud Yordan. Last December Caballero made an ill-fated move to super featherweight, losing a 10-round split decision to Jason Litzau.
Barros won the vacant WBA featherweight title in December, less than 3 months after Yuriorkis Gamboa defended his WBA featherweight title and won the IBF featherweight title. Barros’ last bout was a 12-round unanimous decision victory over Miguel Roman in March.
The fight was originally scheduled to take place on June 18, but was re-scheduled when Caballero and his team’s flight from Panama to Argentina was delayed.
