Former three-time light heavyweight champ, Antonio Tarver (29-6, 20 KOs) made a successful debut at cruiserweight in Sydney, Australia by stopping #5 ranked, Danny Green (31-4, 27 KOs) after nine fairly one-sided rounds earlier today.
After getting knocked to the ropes in the first and dropped to the canvas in the second, the usually-aggressive Green seemed tentative and unable to adapt to Tarver’s hand speed and southpaw stance.
The 42-year-old American controlled the distance and dictated the pace of each and every round, sweeping the unofficial scorecard of The Boxing Tribune and putting Green in a disadvantage that he seemed unable and/or unwilling to overcome.
In the last moments of the ninth round, Tarver came forward with his first real, sustained offensive push and battered Green against the ropes. The Aussie, dazed as he staggered to his corner after the bell, was clearly unable to continue, provoking his trainer to do the right thing and wave off the bout.
