Top Rank CEO, Bob Arum announced earlier today that former welterweight titlist and current jr. middleweight contender, Kermit Cintron (32-3-1, 28 KOs), has signed a promotional deal with Top Rank.
The signing opens up a potential all-Puerto Rico clash with Miguel Cotto as well as bouts with the likes of fellow Top Rank stablemates, Joshua Clottey, Alfonso Gomez, Vanes Martirosyan, or Pawel Wolak. Cintron also provides Arum, with a commercially viable opponent for Manny Pacquiao, should he get by Shane Mosley, May 7th.
Cintron’s last bout was an odd technical decision loss to Paul Williams which saw the Puerto Rican-born fighter ruled unable to continue after falling through the ropes at the Home Deport Center in Carson, CA.
His two other losses have come at the hands of another Top Rank colleague, Antonio Margarito.
In nearly eleven years in the sport, Cintron, who was previously promoted by Lou DiBella, has scored notable victories over Alfredo Angulo, Teddy Reid, Walter Matthysse, David Estrada, and Lovemore N’dou. He also holds a controversial draw against Sergio Martinez in a poorly-officiated 2009 bout that many felt Martinez had actually won.
