Dino Duva and the sons of Mills Lane, Tommy and Terry Lane have added five-time world champion Evander Holyfield to their team at Dynasty Boxing. Holyfield will act as an ambassador and advisor to 2008 Olympic silver medalist Zhang Zhilei, who makes his heavyweight debut August 8 on ESPN’s “Friday Night Fights”.
At yesterday’s press conference in New York City, the Dynasty Boxing ensemble discussed the addition of Holyfield, as well as Zhilei’s future.
Dino Duva – Dynasty Boxing Promoter
“I believe this is a historic occasion. We’re very happy to announce that Evander has joined our team as a goodwill ambassador, a boxing advisor, a public relations consultant and he’s going to be working with us with all of our boxers and events. We’re very honored that Evander has joined our team.”
Tommy Lane- Senior Vice President of Dynasty Promotions
“I grew up watching Evander fight, he holds a special place in our childhood so it makes it that much more special. I remember my father [Mills Lane] saying that Evander Holyfield had more heart and class in his pinky finger than most people have in their whole body, so it’s a thrill to get to know him and work with him.”
Zhang Zhilei- 2008 Olympic Silver Medalist
“I watched his [Holyfield] fights when I was a kid and thought he was a great fighter, my heart is racing with excitement just being here. I hope that one day I’ll be a guy like Evander, I’m not sure that I can reach that far but I will work as hard as I can every day.”
Evander Holyfield on his role as Advisor to Zhilei
“I feel good about it, this is about work and him taking information that I have and using it, because I believe that it will work for him. We believe that he has the heart and power to become a champion, but it all depends on him and how bad he wants it……If a country like China could get their first heavyweight champion of the world it would be a big deal. And of course the money’s in China so that would be huge.”
