5. Manny Pacquiao signs an extension with Top Rank
Back in May, Pacquiao agreed to a two year extension with long time promoter Bob Arum’s Top Rank. At a point in his career where his name sells itself, he chose to play it safe and not venture out into the shark infested waters of free agency. Unfortunately for fans, Top Rank’s welterweight and junior welterweight divisions aren’t very strong. This leaves Pacman to hope for a fifth fight with Juan Manuel Marquez, or a resolution between Top Rank and the talent-rich Golden Boy Promotions. Now, instead of watching him fight the likes of Amir Khan, Keith Thurman, Danny Garcia or Lucas Matthysse, we have to settle for Pacquiao-Chris Algieri in November. Joy.
