Undefeated UK middleweight Anthony Ogogo (7-0, 4 KO’s) has undergone surgery to relieve chronic Achilles pain in both of his tendons.
The 2012 British Olympic bronze medalist has battled this ailment since 2010, originally noticing his condition during the Commonwealth Games in India. The pain worsened over time and became so bad that during the Olympic Games he was unable to walk upon waking in the morning.
Originally misdiagnosed, prescribed rehab was ineffective so upon entering the professional ranks Ogogo searched out other medical advice which led to a proper diagnosis and surgery. Said Ogogo on his blog, “for the last 16 months of being a professional boxer it has been a case of ‘right I need this operation, I’ll be out for a period of time, when is the best time to get it done?’ I’ve decided now is that time.”
Fighting and training with such an injury had caused the fighter to alter both his training and his fighting style, and caused him to pull out of a scheduled bout in Las Vegas last year on the under card of Floyd Mayweathers contest with Canelo Alvarez (though he did grab a spot on the Mayweather-Maidana under card, which he won by third round TKO).

Rehabilitation could take months, but the 25 year old future champion told BBC.com the “there’s probably never been a happier guy that’s about to get cut open, sliced and diced. This is a good thing. I’m buzzing almost like I’ve just won a fight.”
