Promoter Bob Arum has announced that Jessie Vargas (25-0, 9KOs) will defend his WBA “regular” junior welterweight title in Macau, on the Manny Pacquiao-Chris Algieri undercard against former lightweight titlist Antonio DeMarco (31-3-1, 23 KOs).
This will be the second defense of the belt Vargas won from Khabib Allakhverdiev in April of this year on the Pacquiao-Timothy Bradley II undercard.
Mexico’s DeMarco, who held the WBC lightweight title in 2012, has begun campaigning at the higher weights of junior welterweight and welterweight, but has not looked overly impressive in those outings. In his last bout, he survived a first round knockdown to eventually take a unanimous decision from journeyman Lanardo Tyner.
This is the second undercard bout announced for the Pacquiao-Algieri card in as many days. On Wednesday, Arum announced that WBO featherweight champ, Vasyl Lomachenko would be taking on Chonlatarn Piriyapinyo on that same event.
