Saturday, September 27th at the OKC Downtown Airpark in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, three former world champions of boxing’s past headline “Rumble on the River”, an event presented by Ivaylo Gotzev’s Epic Sports and Entertainment.
In the nights main event, former NABF, IBA, and WBC heavyweight champion Samuel Peter (34-5, 27 KO’s) makes his first ring appearance in over three years to face knockout artist, Ron Aubrey (12-3-1, 12 KO’s). “The Nigerian Nightmare” is best known for his pair of victories over James Toney, as well as his losses to Wladimir Klitschko (twice), and brother Vitali. In his last outing back in 2011, he was stopped in nine rounds by Robert Helenius. Aubrey is a former ECHL hockey play who took to pro boxing in 2007. Every fight of his with the exception of a four round draw in 2010 has ended by knockout. Peter is well above and beyond any opponent Aubrey has faced, so he’s in for a tough night.
Middleweight Luis “Yori Boy” Campas (102-17-3, 79 KO’s) is still active at the age of 43. The former IBF and IBA light middleweight champion has seen it all in his 27 year pro career, facing the likes of Felix Trinidad, Anthony Stephens, Fernando Vargas, Raul Marquez and Oscar De La Hoya. He faces Julio Cesar Lanzas (8-19-6, 1 KO), who’s fought primarily on small mid-west cards throughout his career.
In the nights third contest, the always amusing Ricardo Mayorga (29-8-1, 23 KO’s) faces Allen Medina (9-23-1, 1 KO) in his first contest since 2011. Mayorga is well known for his pre-fight antics and post-fight beer and cigarette. The former WBA and WBC welterweight champion first burst onto the scene in 2001 with a win over Andrew “Six Heads” Lewis and a pair of upset victories over Vernon Forrest. Like Campas, he’s also faced Trinidad, Vargas, and De La Hoya, as well as Shane Mosely and Miguel Cotto. His last bout was against Cotto, where he was stopped in the 12 round. Medina, a former U.S. Marine, comes in off four losses and hasn’t fought since late 2012.
All bouts are scheduled for eight rounds.
