9/3 – Ali Raymi (22-0, 22 KO’s) vs. Abdu Rafik (4-0, 1 KO) – 22 May Sports Stadium, Sanaa, Yemen
This bout was mentioned in last week’s UTR, but Raymi snuck one in on us, and took a rematch with Prince Maz over the weekend and won by seventh round KO, ending his first round stoppage streak. So if this goes off as scheduled, it will be Raymi’s second bout in four days.
9/5 – Akira Yaegashi (20-3, 10 KO’s) vs. Roman Gonzalez (39-0, 33 KO’s) – Yoyogi #2 Gymnasium, Tokyo, Japan
This one was covered by The Boxing Tribune HERE, but deserves another mention. Yaegashi, a former minimum-weight world champion is making the fourth defense of the WBC flyweight belt against his toughest opponent yet. Gonzalez is a former minimum-weight and light flyweight champion who’s won nine of his last 10 bouts by knockout.
9/5 – Naoya Inoue (6-0, 5 KO’s) vs. Samartlek Kokietgym (17-4, 5 KO’s) – Yoyogi #2 Gymnasium, Tokyo, Japan
Inoue is new to the pro game, but the amateur standout won a world title Iast time out, stopping Adrian Hernandez in six rounds for the WBC light flyweight championship. In Kokietgym, he’s facing a WBC Asian Boxing Council and PABA minimum-weight champion with three of his opponents listed as “unknown” on his record.
9/5 – Ryota Murata (4-0, 4 KO’s) vs. Adrian Luna Flores (17-2-1, 11 KO’s) – Yoyogi #2 Gymnasium, Tokyo, Japan
Japans middleweight Olympic gold medalist faces the limited Flores, who holds the CABOFE and Mexico middleweight titles.
9/6 – Juan Francisco Estrada (26-2, 19 KO’s) vs. Giovani Segura (32-3-1, 28 KO’s) – Arena Ciudad de Mexico, Mexico City, Distrito Federal, Mexico
Segura gets a chance to reclaim his status as a world champion when Estrada defends both his WBA Super and WBO world flyweight titles. Segura had a good run as light flyweight champion, holding the WBA, WBA Super, and WBO titles before moving up to flyweight where he lost to world champion Brian Viloria. After another loss two fights later to Edgar Sosa, he regained his footing and won the interim WBO Latino flyweight title and picked up three stoppage wins. Estrada is also on a three fight winning streak after losing a light flyweight title bout to Roman Gonzalez in 2012. He bounced back right away, defeating Brian Viloria in his next contest to win the WBA Super and WBO belts and make two defenses.
9/6 – Alicia Ashley (21-9-1, 3 KO’s) vs. Jackie Nava (29-4-3, 13 KO’s) – Arena Ciudad de Mexico, Mexico City, Distrito Federal, Mexico
If you’ve never seen Jackie Nava fight, then you don’t know what you’re missing. After a long reign as a bantamweight and super bantamweight world champion, she took a two year hiatus but returned to stop Alys Sanchez and win the interim WBA female super bantamweight title earlier this year. Ashley defends the WBC super-bantamweight belt in this one. She defies her age; at 47 years old, she comes in on a seven fight winning streak, the longest of her career. Ashley won the title in 2011 and has three successful defenses; she’s also a former world title holder as a bantamweight.
9/6 – Mariana Juarez (39-7-3, 16 KO’s) vs. Carla Romina Weiss (9-2-1) – Gimnasio Miguel Hidalgo, Puebla, Puebla, Mexico
Another one of Mexico’s most popular boxers, Juarez makes the third defense of her WBC International super flyweight championship. In February she narrowly defeated Melissa McMorrow in a contest many felt McMorrow had won. This is a huge step up in class for Weiss, who hasn’t fought anyone close to this level before.
9/6 – Virgil Hill Jr. (3-0, 1 KO) vs. Catlyn Little Eagle (1-1) – Sky Dancer Hotel & Casino, Belcourt, North Dakota, USA
Son of the famed former light heavyweight champion continues his young pro career in a scheduled six rounder that headlines the card.
9/6 – Rau’shee Warren (11-0, 3 KO’s) vs. Jose Luis Araiza (31-8-1, 22 KO’s) – U.S. Bank Arena, Cincinnati, Ohio, USA
Warren is a three time US Olympian and world amateur champion. The two year pro picks up a spot on the Broner-Taylor undercard, facing Araiza, who won his last two fights, but was 0-7-1 before that.
9/6 – Jamel Herring (8-0, 5 KO’s) & Terrell Gausha (11-0, 6 KO’s) vs. TBA – U.S. Bank Arena, Cincinnati, Ohio, USA
Two more US Olympians make an appearance on the card, both facing the always dreaded, TBA
9/6 – Juan Diaz (39-4, 19 KO’s) vs. Carlos Cardenas (21-8-1, 14 KO’s) – Laredo Energy Arena, Laredo, Texas, USA
The Baby Bull is riding a four fight win streak since beginning his rebuilding stage last year. The former world lightweight champion took a three year break after back to back losses to Paul Malignaggi and Juan Manuel Marquez. He came back last year to score to knockouts followed by two 10 round decisions.
9/10 – Amnat Ruenroeng (13-0, 5 KO’s) vs. McWilliams Arroyo (15-1, 13 KO’s) – Liptapanlop Hall, Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand
Ruenroeng closed out his second year as a pro in impressive fashion, defeating Rocky Fuentes to win the IBF flyweight title and then taking a split decision over world light flyweight champion Kazuto Ioka in his first defense. Arroyo holds the WBO and WBC Latino flyweight belts, and comes in off a second round stoppage of previously undefeated Froilan Saludar in June.
