Former two-division world champ, Timothy Bradley ( 31-1, 12 KOs) will be looking to close out a tough 2014 with a solid win against fringe welterweight contender Diego Chaves (23-2, 19 KOs) on HBO, December 13 at the Cosmopolitan in Las Vegas.
Bradley suffered a decisive unanimous decision loss at the hands of Manny Pacquiao in April of this year, pretty much confirming that despite his controversial 2012 victory over the Filipino icon, Pacquiao was the better man all along.
The Pacquiao loss was a dark blotch on an otherwise stellar career that has seen the Palm Springs native score victories over the likes of Juan Manuel Marquez, Ruslan Provodnikov, Devon Alexander, and Lamont Peterson.
At 31 years of age, there’s plenty more career ahead of Bradley and the post-Pacquiao part of his career begins with the tough Argentine on the HBO main stage.
Chaves, who is officially 1-2 on American soil, has developed the reputation of being the tough battler who does just well enough to lose impressively. In his last bout, this past August, Chaves was disqualified in the ninth round of an ugly, awkward brawl with Brandon Rios. On year earlier, he gave rising prospect Keith Thurman the toughest fight of his young career before getting stopped in the tenth round.
The 28-year-old Chaves will be looking to shake the label of tough, gritty loser and take one huge step forward toward s title contention. A win over Bradley would likely earn him a high ranking and the attention of the welterweight division’s top stars.
