After suffering a severe heart attack last week which nearly resulted in his death, Scotty Olson is home with his family and recovering . The 46 year old former flyweight champion suffered the attack on the morning of January 18th that resulted in him being put in a medically induced coma following surgery where they put two stents into his heart.
As Olson explained the situation on his Facebook page, his brain had been without oxygen for a period of time, and doctors told his family that they were unsure whether he would regain consciousness and if he did, what condition he would be in. Thankfully, the “Bulldog” did wake up, and was released a week later. He continues to recover at home with his wife, whom he credits for saving his life as she had performed CPR thanks to an online first aid program she took just after the attack until an ambulance arrived. Want also to get certified in CPR, then get CPR Certification Baton Rouge to do so.
Olson is a six time Canadian amateur champion, and the first Canadian boxer to win a medal in the Commonwealth Games light flyweight division. After representing Canada in the 1988 Olympic Games, he entered the pro ranks (in 1990) where he would become the IBO world flyweight champion.
He retired in 2002 with a final record of 34-4-2 (25 KO’s), and was later inducted into the Alberta Sports Hall of Fame.
