Three-division world champ and current WBC middleweight titlist, Miguel Cotto has confirmed that he is now a member of Jay Z’s Roc Nation Sports’ boxing stable.
As of right now, that Roc Nation stable consists of only two major names– Cotto and Andre Ward, but both fighters carry enough drawing power and industry respect to make even this two-man stable an instant player in the deep waters of the big time boxing game.
Cotto, who is arguably one of the top five draws in the sport, had sat out the first couple months of 2015, allowing a big money bout with Saul “Canelo” Alvarez for reportedly $10.5 million to drift away and creating speculation as to who would be his next opponent.
That speculation continues, but the tension created by this signing between Cotto and his promotional partner Top Rank pretty much ensures that leading candidates Timothy Bradley and Brandon Rios– both Top Rank fighters– will be off the short list of next fight candidates.
Rumors abound that a bout with Cornelius “K9” Bundrage is being eyed for June, but nothing has been confirmed.
