“He’s like a little girl, I’m going to teach her how to really hit…”I’m a man going up against a woman. But this Mexican, I’m going to hit him very hard.” Ricardo Mayorga
Say it’s not so, but rumors abound that former WBC/WBA world welterweight champion and 43-year-old Ricardo Mayorga (32-9-1) is coming back. The carefree Mayorga stopped hapless Mexican Juadiel Zepeda in the third round on April 1. Zepeda, no April Fool’s joke, was 0-14 with two no-decisions in his last 16 starts. His last win came in 2009. Mayorga predictably went bonkers during the weigh-in but his act has turned predictably stale. And this time around, his verbal abuse was off limits—even for him.
Mayorga’s next opponent could be the equally ancient 45-yaer-old “Yory Boy” Campas as his next opponent. Campas, who lives and fight out of Montana, celebrates his 30th year as a professional boxer in July. Four of his recent wins have come in Montana, a state with a suspect boxing commission—or at least according to a recent report from Thomas Hauser. Two of those wins reportedly were held in Three Forks (pop. 1,800), the first at a rodeo and the second on the grounds of a livestock equipment company Another Mayorga opponent could be none other than fellow-bad guy and once fearsome Antonio Margarito (40-8) who, after a four year retirement, returned last year and picked up two tough wins over Jorge Paez Jr. and Ricardo Alvarez.
Both have fought Shane Mosley and both have been KOd, Mayorga twice. If this shameful freak show takes place, look for Margo to gore El Matador into retirement once and for all.

These old guys coming back is crazy! A 30-year career in this sport? Christ! Didn’t Jack Dempsey have a fight in Montana?
Bill Petersen says
I thought Rico Mayo looked soft and bloated when I last saw him get embarrassed by Shane Mosley in their 2015 rematch on PPV. I like Rico Mayo, but at best he was a “B+” fighter who generally managed to lose the big fight. Now at age 43, whatever skills he once had are long gone, yet I’m sure he still owns a punch between 147-160 pounds.

Yes. Last thong to go but his shot reflexes won’t allow him to land one.

Teodoro M Reynoso says
Both of these guys have taken a hard punch too many that make them delusional if not outright loco.
Kid says
Si. Muy loco. Es Verdado.

Total freak show. But again. Sares has the knowledge to highlight these joke fights.
Kid says
Es has the beat
Tex Hassler says
If this is not country for old men, I guess I better move. Mayorga needs to move back into retirement and stay there.
Kid says
Yes. He is done.
Kid says
You live there!!!
