It’s almost here. Everyone that has been dreaming about this bout will finally see their dreams come true, though one can only hope that it lives up to the hype. And many a sports enthusiast doesn’t think it will, especially when you look at the Mayweather vs McGregor fighting odds.
Each new day injects a new facet into the Mayweather/McGregor match for people to discuss. If it isn’t the insults shooting back and forth between the two, it’s the questions arising over the price tag the fight will elicit on Pay-Per-View.
These days, though, it’s the recent confrontation between Paulie Malignaggi and Conor McGregor that has people buzzing. Now, you might understandably question what Paulie’s fight with McGregor has to do with the Mayweather bout
The Paulie controversy matters because it emerged during Conor McGregor’s training for his fight with Mayweather. While there have been rumblings about what happened between the two, it wasn’t until Joe Cortez spoke about it that the facts were finally presented.
If you thought that the two simply had a bit of a scuffle, the veteran boxing referee begs to differ. According to Cortez, he had to separate McGregor and Paulie after a fiery sparring session took a violent turn. The 73-year-old is currently doing his part to help McGregor learn the rules of boxing before his fight with Mayweather.
Cortez did not expect to don his peacemaker hat when Pauli entered the ring. The pair had exchanged a few verbal shots before. Paulie doesn’t like the idea of McGregor fighting Mayweather and he hasn’t been shy about saying as much, suggesting that McGregor’s challenge to Mayweather is disrespectful to boxing as a whole.
McGregor, being the firebrand, wasted no time in calling Paulie out. Once Paulie showed up at the Gym, things only escalated. It started with a few verbal assaults. Then they began to spar and it wasn’t long before the situation escalated.
As a veteran referee, it didn’t take Cortez long to realize that things were going bad. He noticed just how far McGregor and Paulie were going to rough one another up. Cortez was forced to do his duty as a referee by stopping the fight as he would any regular bout that was taking a bloody turn.
Of course, this sort of drama only fuels the excitement surrounding McGregor’s fight with Mayweather. At the end of the day, most people do not expect McGregor to survive the fight but that hasn’t made UFC and boxing fans any less enthusiastic about the event.
Of course, while there is definite excitement over Mayweather’s match with McGregor, fans are still a little uncertain about the amount of money they will have to cough up to watch the event on Pay-Per-View.
Certain sources have suggested that Mayweather wants the fight to cost a hundred dollar in the UK. However, he is unlikely to get his wish. The fight is just a few weeks away. It is a little frustrating for fans that the powers involved haven’t made any announcements about which channel will show the fight and how much they will be expected to pay.
