Boxing and Femininity: How to Rule Both Worlds

Boxing is one of the most powerful sports out there. It requires fast reflexes, strength, and determination. It is empowering, and it is a great workout, which is why it’s a shame that it is seen as something so masculine and male-dominated. You can be a woman and box, and, more importantly, you can be someone who enjoys feminine expression and box. There is no reason that you can only have one or the other, and to help you enjoy both all you need to do is follow these steps.

Break Stereotypes

Though you shouldn’t have to, the first thing you need to do is accept the fact that you are breaking stereotypes. Just because you are breaking the stereotype, however, doesn’t mean that you cannot own it. Be proud of who you are and love what you do. No one can stop you, and no one can take away how both aspects of your life make you feel. Wear pink athleisure clothes if that’s what you love and practice boxing on your own time. There is no dress code, and there’s definitely no reason to feel ashamed. Own your preferences and the others at your gym will respect you for it.

Wear What Makes You Most Comfortable

What you wear plays a huge part in your confidence. You should never underestimate the power of self-expression, or how confidence-boosting it can feel to wear a great dress. It doesn’t matter what you look like, either. Whether you are stick thin or have curves for days, you owe it to yourself to find clothes that are comfortable and flattering to wear, both inside and outside the gym. Never feel like you have to conform to some preconceived notion. Instead, find the right clothes for you. It could mean choosing any of the plus size maxi dresses from www.simplybe.com, or it could mean finding the perfect sports outfit that supports your body.

 Be Committed

The only thing you need to do to gain respect is to be committed to what you love. This means being unapologetically you and giving your all into the sport that you love. There is no need to compromise. There is no need to try to fit in. Your passion should be all that they need to accept you, and if they don’t, they aren’t worth your time.

Bring Your Friends with You

If you are nervous or unsure about bringing your two passions together, bring a friend with you. Perhaps you have always loved boxing and never tried it for yourself, or perhaps you just moved to a new city and feel nervous about going alone. Either way, bringing a friend can help you feel more comfortable being you, and who knows, you might just inspire them to pick up the sport as well.

Boxing is a very empowering sport to choose. It is great to help you feel strong and be strong, but it can be a very masculine sport. Just because it is typically associated with masculinity, however, does not mean you should ever feel like you have to shy away from your femininity – own it.
