Matthew Hatton will attempt to rebound from his loss to Saul “Canelo” Alvarez this Friday, returning to his home country to take on undefeated Andrei Abramenka of Belarus for a minor IBF belt.
Hatton (41-5-2, 16 KOs) was defeated in his attempt to move up in weight and challenge Alvarez in March, and should be more comfortable back in the welterweight division. A win would mean yet another minor or regional title for Hatton, who has won several in the past but has been unable to get over the hump at the world level.
Abramenka (15-0-2, 3 KOs) will be taking a major step up in class, fighting mostly local opposition in his home nation before this bout. His only venture outside of Belarus before this week was a 12 round draw with Roberto Belge in Belge’s native Switzerland. The Swiss welterweight is a common opponent for both men, having been stopped by Hatton in three rounds after his draw with Abramenka.
The fight will take place at Tower Circus in Blackpool and is scheduled for 12 rounds.
