Mexicali, Baja California, Mexico – WBO super bantamweight champion Jorge “Travieso” Arce (58-6-2, 45 KOs) beat Simphiwe Nongqayi (16-2-1, 6 KOs) from pillar to post in the rematch of their 2009 title fight – a fight won by Nongqayi.
Arce wasted little time imposing his will on Nongqayi, as he moved efficiently in and out to land his combinations and knock Nongqayi down with a hard left hand in the first round. The awkward Nongqayi was unable to keep Arce from rushing in, but fought well in spurts.
After a busy round 3, Arce was cut over the right eye by an accidental clash of heads. After being examined by the ringside doctor he wasted little time in jumping back on top of Nongqayi. In the end, Arce’s assault was more than Nonqayi could bear, and after being trapped in the blue corner in the 4th round, Nongqayi slumped over as Arce landed several unanswered punches, forcing the referee to step in and stop the action.
Victor Terrazas (30-2-1, 17 KOs) dropped Eduardo Becerril 12-9-2, 4 KOs) twice en route to a stoppage win in the 4th round of the co-main event. A big overhand right followed by an uppercut from distance rocked Becerril and forced the referee to step in as a third right hand landed to the side of his head.
