Former two-division world champion, Ivan “Iron Boy” Calderon (34-2-1, 6KOs) will step in the ring Saturday, October 29th against Felipe “Panterita” Rivas (9-9-1, 4KOs).  Both fighters are competing for the vacant WBO Latino belt in the 105lb division.

Puerto Rico’s Calderon holds the better record as well as experience with elite fighters in the ring.  His last two fights resulted in losses, both by way of knockout by the same opponent, Giovani Segura.  He faced Segura first in August of 2010 and then again in April of 2011 in the light flyweight division.

Calderon was originally scheduled to face fellow southpaw former world titlist, Raul Garcia.  However, Garcia was forced to withdraw from this bout after suffering a hand injury two weeks ago.

Calderon will now face Rivas, a Mexican journeyman who has won as many bouts as he’s lost.  He’s an orthodox fighter and is nine years younger, four inches taller and has a five inch reach advantage.

The fight is part of the 24th WBO Annual Convention and will take place at the Ritz Carlton Hotel in Guaynabo, Puerto Rico.  Also featured will be former junior featherweight world titlist, Wilfredo Vasquez Jr. and junior middleweight prospect, Jorge Melendez (opponents TBA).
