Undefeated WBA ‘super’ featherweight champion, Chris John (47-0-2, 22KOs), is back in action this September for his routine biannual title defense.
This fight, against the cagey TBA marks an incredible 17th straight defense of a title he captured back in 2004 in Tokyo, Japan (that bout, which he won by unanimous decision, was the first time Dragon fought outside of Indonesia).
John’s most noteworthy defense came in 2006 when he met (and decisioned) Juan Manuel Marquez in a mandatory WBA sponsored defense.
The 32 year old “Dragon” John has fought in the States only two times. In his American debut he drew with a hopelessly over matched, yet home-field advantage toting Rocky Juarez. Not wanting to face Juarez in Texas again, their rematch was held in Las Vegas, Nevada where John netted himself a comfortable points win.
This fight is scheduled to take place in Singapore, which will mark John’s 45th fight inside of Asia proper.
