The title fight for the vacant WBA lightweight strap between Sharif “The Lion” Bogere (23-0, 15 KOs) and “interim” titlist Richard Abril (17-3-1, 8 KOs) has been called off, as ESPN.com’s Dan Rafael reports that Bogere has suffered an injury to his Achilles tendon in training. The fight was to have been the main event of an HBO card on November 24.
The card itself is still on; the fight between Robert Guerrero (30-1-1, 18 KOs) and Andre Berto (28-1, 22 KOs) for the interim WBC belt at welterweight (“interim” no doubt the designation reserved to it “just in case” Floyd Mayweather wants to come back down to 147 again so that Jose Sulaiman can have a nice belt waiting for him) will be elevated to main event status. The third fight on that card, between Keith “One Time” Thurman (18-0, 17 KOs) and Carlos Quintana (29-3, 23 KOs), will become the co-feature of what will become a doubleheader.
