WBA Super World middleweight champion Felix Sturm (35-2-1, 15 KOs) will put his belt on the line against the U.K.’s Matthew Macklin (28-2, 19 KOs), on Saturday, June 25. Lanxess Arena in Cologne, Germany will play host to the bout, and Epix will televise the bout live, and stream the bout on EpixHD.com, beginning at 5 pm EST.
Germany’s Felix Sturm will attempt to make the 10th consecutive successful defense of his middleweight title. The 3-time middleweight titlist came to prominence in a controversial losing effort to Oscar De La Hoya in 2003, losing the WBO middleweight title in a fight many thought he won. Sturm would go on to win the WBA title, losing it in his first defense against Javier Castillejo. After winning the rematch with Catillejo and regaining the title 2 fights later, Sturm has not looked back, grabbing wins over Sebastian Sylvester and Giovanni Lorenzo along the way.
Having never fought a champion-caliber opponent, and fighting primarily in Ireland and the U.K., Macklin is taking a considerable step up in level of competition. He currently holds the European middleweight title.
