Former junior featherweight world titlist, Daniel Ponce de Leon (41-4, 34 KOs) returns to the ring, Saturday, January 21st against fellow Mexican, Omar Estrella (15-3-2, 10 KOs) in a featherweight bout at the Bodega Del Boxeo in Ensenada, Baja California, Mexico.
The heavy-handed Ponce de Leon, who dropped an eight round technical decision to Yuriorkis Gamboa last September, has been a fixture on the junior featherweight/featherweight world scene since 2004 and has been in the ring with the likes of Gamboa, Celestino Caballero, Juan Manuel Lopez, Gerry Penalosa, Eduardo Escobedo, and Adrien Broner.
The 24-year-old Estrella scored his biggest win to date against equally inexperienced, Sergio Lopez for a minor regional Mexican title in May, but has yet to face an opponent above club-level.
Ponce de Leon-Estrella was originally scheduled to take place in Mexico City befor being moved to Tijuana and then, finally, to Ensenada.
