Featherweight contenders Billy “The Kid” Dib (31-1, 19 KOs) and Jorge “Baby Face” Lacierva (39-7-6, 26 KOs) will face off at the Olympic Park Sports Centre in Homebrush, New South Wales, Australia on Friday, July 29. The winner will claim the vacant IBF featherweight title, most recently held by Cuban sensation Yuriorkis Gamboa.

The 25-year old Dib will be making his second attempt at featherweight gold. His first shot came in 2008 against Steven Luevano, holder of the WBO’s featherweight crown at the time. Dib dropped a 12-round unanimous decision to the more experienced Luevano. Since the loss, Dib has remained active on Australia’s club circuit. In his last bout Dib scored an 8-round TKO victory over Filipino journeyman Ricky Sismundo.

Lacierva is also making his second attempt at a championship belt. Lacierva lost a 12-round unanimous decision victory to then-WBA super bantamweight champion, Celestino Caballero in 2007. Lacierva has won 7 straight against mixed level competition since the loss. He last fought in April, beating Fernando Beltran Jr. in an IBF title eliminator.
