Andy Lee Looks to Avenge His Only Loss to Brian Vera, October 1

Irish middleweight contender Andy Lee (26-1, 19 KOs) will attempt to avenge his only professional loss when he takes on Brian Vera (19-5, 12 KOs) on Saturday October 1, from the Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, New Jersey. This 10-round middleweight contest will open the HBO World Championship Boxing broadcast of Martinez – Barker, beginning at 9PM ET / 6 PM PT.

Vera arrived at the Mohegan Sun Casino in Connecticut in March 2008 only 6 months removed from a knockout loss to Jaidon Codrington on the second season of the popular boxing reality show, “The Contender”. He left with an unexpected TKO7 victory over the undefeated Lee. Vera’s success was short lived, and he would lose 4 of his next 5 fights, including a knockout loss to James Kirkland in his next bout. Vera has won 2 straight in 2011, with his first win being an upset victory over Sergio Mora in February. In his last bout, Vera knocked Eloy Suarez out in 8 rounds.

Lee was brought along slowly after the loss to Vera in 2008. He had 9 straight fights against club-level opposition before his March 12 bout with the undefeated Craig McEwan. Lee looked shaky at times in the fight, but came on late and scored a stoppage victory in the 10th and final round.
