Featherweight/Super Featherweight contender, Rafael “El Chocho” Guzman (28-3-1, 20 KOs) was shot and killed Monday night outside of his home in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico.

Following a birthday party for his father, two armed men in a white Nissan Tsuru ambushed Guzman outside of his residence, firing multiple shots that killed the 25-year-old fighter.

In June of last year, Guzman survived another attempt on his life when unidentified gunmen fired several shots into the car he was driving. In that incident, the Guadalajara native came away with just some minor injuries from a shattered windshield. Four months after the attempt on his life last year, Guzman’s brother, Roberto, was executed and disposed of in a public intersection, marked with a cardboard announcement from the Cártel Jalisco Nueva Generación.

Guzman is best known for his spirited recent effort in a KO 4 loss to Miguel Angel “Mikey” Garcia in June. Most recently, he fought journeyman, Rafael Hernandez to a draw in August.
