Showtime’s popular “ShoBox” series returns on Friday night when former world titlist Rico Ramos (21-1, 11 KOs) takes on undefeated featherweight prospect, Ronny Rios (19-0, 9 KOs) at Fantasy Springs Casino in Indio, California. A vacant minor featherweight title will be on the line in the 11:15 PM ET ShoBox broadcast.Ronny Rios

Ramos, the former keeper of the WBA version of the junior featherweight title, is on the comeback trail following last January’s knockout loss to Guillermo Rigondeaux. Ramos was thoroughly outclassed by the Cuban southpaw, and fought timidly while suffering a knockdown before a body shot ended his title run in the sixth round. Ramos bounced back last June with an eight-round majority decision win over unheralded prospect Efrain Esquivias. Ramos is hoping for a second consecutive win in his hopeful return into the title picture.

Rios is taking a big step up in competition against Ramos. The Santa Ana, California native has taken small steps over the last two years, but stepped up to ten-round fights in his last outing, stopping David Rodela in the ninth of a scheduled ten rounds.
