As previously reported here on TheBoxingTribune.com, a headline championship show featuring Chad Dawson Vs. Adonis Stevenson on HBO Boxing was announced to take place June 8th at the Bell Centre in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. That card now has added a televised co-feature – as it’s been announced that former Featherweight and Super Featherweight champion Yuriorkis Gamboa will move up in weight and head to the Lightweight division to take on fellow undefeated fighter Darley Perez.
The bout is scheduled for 12 rounds and is pending sanctioning body approval for title consideration. El Ciclon De Guantanamo, Gamboa(22-0, 16 KO’s), is coming off of a Unanimous Decision win over Michael Farenas this past December. A bout in which Gamboa had to pick himself up from the canvas after being floored by Farenas. Perez(28-0, 19 KO’s) is a heavy-fisted fighter from Colombia with a high knockout percentage of just under 70%, however, most of those knockouts have come against relatively unknown fighters. The intriguing question in this bout is who’s chin will hold up best once Gamboa and Perez exchange their power.
