2/27 – Odlanier Solis (20-2, 13 KO’s) vs. Tony Thompson (39-5, 26 KO’s) – Gloria Sports Arena, Gloria Hotels and Resorts, Antalya, Turkey
The 43 year old “Tiger” keeps his career going on the road with this rematch. A year ago he won the vacant WBC International heavyweight title with a close decision over Solis. Solis hasn’t fought since, while Thompson lost a decision to Carlos Takam. This bout is for the vacant WBC Continental Americas heavyweight title.
2/27 – Pablo Cesar Cano (28-4-1, 21 KO’s) vs. Juan Carlos Abreu (18-1-1, 17 KO’s) – Fantasy Springs Casino, Indio, California, USA
An interesting matchup, as we have a former world title holder in Cano taking on an up and comer with an impressive record and impressive KO ratio…on paper anyway. Cano has hung tough with Paul Malignaggi and Shane Mosley, losing both by close decision. Abreus one real test was against Humberto Soto, losing by 10 round decision.
2/28 – Roman Gonzalez (41-0, 35 KO’s) vs. Valentin Leon (38-28-3, 21 KO’s) – Puerto Salvador Allende, Managua, Nicaragua
Holding world titles since 2008 in the minimum-weight, light flyweight and flyweight classes, Gonzalez takes a stay busy bout against journeyman Leon without risking his WBC World flyweight title.
2/28 – Tyson Fury (23-0, 17 KO’s) vs. Christian Hammer (17-3, 10 KO’s) – O2 Arena (Millenium Dome), Greenwich, London, United Kingdom
This one isn’t getting much attention outside the U.K. basically because Hammer isn’t a high profile opponent. As Fury tries to maneuver his way into a bout with Wlad, he puts up his WBO International heavyweight title against the former German and European heavyweight title holder Hammer, who holds decision wins over Kevin Johnson and Konstantin Airich.
2/28 – Dmitry Chudinov vs. Chris Eubank Jr. – O2 Arena (Millenium Dome), Greenwich, London, United Kingdom
A world title fight isn’t a bad consolation prize when you’re coming off a loss. Eubank dropped a close decision to Billy Joe Saunders in his first title fight in November and now fights for the interim WBA World middleweight title. Chudinov hasn’t fought anyone great, but he has knocked off veteran Grady Brewer and undefeated prospect Patrick Nielsen.
2/28 – Carl Frampton (19-0, 13 KO’s) vs. Chris Avalos 25-2, 19 KO’s) – Odyssey Arena, Belfast, Northern Ireland, United Kingdom
Frampton comes in off an impressive streak of wins that includes two wins over Kiko Martinez and stoppages of Steve Molitor and Hugo Cazares. This is the first defense of his IBF super bantamweight title that he won from Martinez in his last outing. Avalos is on a three fight KO streak and hasn’t lost since 2011. He’s a former NABO super bantamweight title holder.
2/28 – Virgil Hill (50-7, 23 KO’s) vs. Jimmy Campbell (11-7, 8 KO’s) – Civic Center, Bismarck, North Dakota, USA
For the first time in over seven years Hill is lacing up the gloves again at age 51. He had a historic run as the WBA light heavyweight champion and held the WBA cruiserweight title at the end of his career. After ending his career with back to back losses in Germany, the 2013 International Boxing Hall of Fame inductee wanted to have one last contest in his hometown of Bismark, ND. Jimmy Campbell fits the bill in this one; he’s lost his last five bouts and has only fought once since 2012.
