Tyson Fury just doesn’t look like a boxer. The 27-year-old is unorthodox in every way; from preparing for upcoming bouts to his actions during press conferences but these traits are what makes him an incredible athlete. Last year, he defeated the legendary Wladimir Klitschko to become the world heavyweight champion but offered the Ukrainian a rematch – and a Fury victory would almost certainly see him accepted as the undisputed champion.
Some don’t believe that Fury is all that; most probably because they don’t agree with his antics away from the ring. But inside the arena, he’s an animal. Fury uses his sheer force and size to earn victory in any way possible. Just look at the size of him compared to fellow heavyweight David Haye. And to be fair, he is like every other boxer: he is a champion and wants to win. His winning mentality is clear for all to see.
And while he isn’t afraid to run his mouth, Fury comes across as a genuine figure. Whilst his comments may get him into trouble from time-to-time, his ability to out-box and overpower his opponents HAS to be admired and respected. Fury isn’t the complete package in terms of style but his record speaks for itself. He has won all 25 of his professional bouts, with 18 by way of knockout before the scheduled distance.
Ultimately, Tyson Fury is a winner – and that is what boxing is all about. Love him or hate him, he is Britain’s greatest boxer right now and an all-UK bout with Anthony Joshua may be on the cards in the not-so-distant future. And whilst opinion on Fury is split, the majority of the British public love Joshua. The 2012 Olympic gold medal winner is on the road to greatness but Fury could be the man to end his dreams of unifying the heavyweight division; and an all-British bout is certainly on the cards at some point in the future.
But first, Fury must prepare for his rematch with Klitschko at the end of the year. The fight was originally scheduled for July but Fury suffered a serious foot injury to scupper any chance of the bout taking place. However, it has been rescheduled for October 29th and Fury will fancy his chances against the 40-year-old veteran. As of July 27th, the Briton is priced at 10/11 in Bet365’s boxing betting odds to defend his belts and fully secure his place at the top of the division.
Fury isn’t perfect by any stretch of the imagination and he will never be universally accepted or liked by the boxing world. However, one thing is for sure: he loves winning. Fury knows that boxing is mainly about two things; winning and money. He isn’t in the sport for popularity, he is in it to make a living and his honesty is admirable. Who knows, he might even secure a second successive victory over the legendary Wladimir Klitschko; an achievement that would see him go down in history as one of the best fighters of all-time…
