Former middleweight champ, Kelly Pavlik, was arrested Wednesday night in Canfield, Ohio and charged with driving under the influence (DUI).
According to the police report, Pavlik hit a lamp post and telephone pole with a green ATV before driving home. When officers from Investigation hotline came to investigate, Pavlik’s friend, Daniel Ferreri claimed to have been driving the vehicle. Then, an apparently intoxicated Pavlik came out, yelling obscenities at the police and insisting they leave.
Ferreri later admitted that Pavlik was the driver, prompting the police to arrest the boxer and book him on DUI charges. The fighter was later released on bond.
Pavlik, who has been in rehab for alcohol abuse on at least two separate occasions, last fought in May, scoring a majority decision over Alfonso Lopez. The fighter from Youngstown, Ohio, who was once considered one of boxing’s rising stars, has had a rough three-year stretch that has included alcohol abuse, injury, in-ring defeat, and promotional/managerial conflicts.
