Mexico City, Mexico– Former Jr. Flyweight champ, Edgar Sosa (39-6, 23 KOs), scored his second straight stoppage win after his controversial headbutt-caused TKO loss to Rodel Mayol in late 2009.
His opponent, Venezuelan, Jose Luis Varela (15-8, 7 KOs), a natural strawweight, was never really in the bout and lacked the size and power to keep Sosa honest and respectful.
Despite two lackluster initial rounds that saw Varela moving and his opponent unable to catch him, Sosa eventually found the proper distance in the third round and dropped Varela with a hard, stright right hand.
Varela beat the count, but would be dropped by another right hand later in the round.
The end came in the fourth with Varela up against the ropes and Sosa landing some damaging shots to provoke the referee stoppage.
On the undercard, Mexican, Christian Esquivel (20-2, 14 KOs) won a decision over South Africa’s, Tshifhiwa Munyai (20-2-1, 10 KOs) for the vacant WBC Silver Bantamweight title.
Hermosillo, Sonora, Mexico– Former world champ, Manuel “Chango” Vargas (28-5-1, 13 KOs) beat Michael Arango (30-9-3, 24 KOs) via sixth round TKO.
On the undercard, Freddie Roach pupil, Roberto Marroquin (15-0, 12 KOs), won a TKO 3 stoppage over Jesus Quintero (8-5-2, 4 KOs).
