In Brooklyn, at the Aviator Sports Complex, fan favorite Heather “The Heat” Hardy (7-0, 2 KO’s) scored her second straight win by stoppage, defeating Ana Laura Gomez (4-4) in the second round to win the vacant UBF International super bantamweight title. The bout was a scheduled eight round co-feature to the “Battle of Brooklyn” 10 rounder between Gabriel Bracero and Dmitry Salita. Gomez, coming in with seven bouts, was the most experienced fighter Hardy’s faced so far. She had lost three straight fights before going inactive in 2012, but came back in August to take a 10 round decision over Jovanna Rosas to line up Saturday’s bout against Hardy.
Undefeated Tori Nelson (8-0-3) successfully defended the WIBA welterweight title for the first time, defeating Kali Reis (5-2-1, 2 KO’s) by 10 round decision in Maryland, U.S. Nelson, the former WIBA and WBC middleweight champ, won the vacant title in September, beating Aleksandra Lopes after fighting back to back draws with Teresa Perozzi in a pair of attempts to regain the WBC middleweight strap. Reis, who holds a win and a loss against the aforementioned Lopes, was coming in on a three fight winning streak.
A mismatch in Thailand, as the WIBA minimum-weight title holder Samson Tor Buamas (31-3, 14 KO’s) defeated Ying Li, who was making her professional debut, by 10 round decision. It was the seventh defense for Buamas, who has also held the WBC light flyweight and WIBA flyweight titles. Opposition must be scarce in Thailand, as this is the ninth time (and third title defense) in recent years that Buamas has faced an opponent with no pro experience.
WBF minimum-weight champion Anne Sophie Da Costa (16-0, 7 KO’s) remained undefeated with a 10 round decision over Yesenia Castrejon (15-13, 9 KO’s) in France. It was the first defense for Da Costa, who won the title just over a year ago. Castrejon lost a flyweight title bid in July, and had won over 0-1 Claudia Romero in September leading into this bout.
On the under card, Prisca Vicot (3-3) retained the France lightweight title with an eight round decision over Cindy Bonhiver (3-4).
In Mexico, Jessica Chavez (19-3-3, 4 KO’s) drew in 10 rounds with interim WBA flyweight champion Arely Mucino (18-2-2, 10 KO’s), retaining her WBC silver light flyweight title. It was the second defense for Chavez, a former IBF and WBF light flyweight world champion, who made big news this past June when she dealt world champion Yesica Bopp her first defeat. She followed up with a victory over Tenkai Tsunami in July before meeting up with Mucino. She had won nine straight before this weekend’s draw. Mucino had come in on three straight wins after losing to Mariana Juarez in May of last year. Her world title wasn’t at stake in the bout.
The vacant EBU welterweight title was won by undefeated Ornella Domini (6-0, 2 KO’s) with a 10 round decision over previously undefeated Sabrina Giuliani (12-1, 1 KO) in Switzerland. All of Domini’s bouts have taken place in 2013; she turned pro in January. Giuliani is the current holder of the EBU light welterweight belt, which wasn’t up for grabs.
Belgium’s Delfine Persoon (27-1, 12 KO’s) stopped Eva Halasi (11-7, 9 KO’s) in a non-title bout for the WIBF lightweight champion. This was the fifth non-title affair for Persoon, who won the belt in January with a win over Anita Torti. She’s scheduled to face fellow champion Lucia Morelli, where the WIBF strap, along with Morelli’s WIBA and WBF titles, will be on the line. Halasi currently holds the IBF welterweight title.
