Osleys Iglesias: What Next For The Terrifying Cuban Super-Star?

Osleys Iglesias (11-0) is a fighter who has truly announced himself amongst the super talent of the super middleweight division.

With his devastating June 6th evisceration of Russian opponent Evgeny Shvdenko (16-2-1) on the undercard of Butler-Volny in Quebec, Canada, the Cuban hard-hitter has successfully emerged as a frontrunner in one of boxing’s most prestigious weight classes.

With names like the imperial ‘Canelo’ Alvarez (61-2-2) and up-and-comers like Jaime Munguia (43-1) and Christian Mbilli (27-0), Iglesias has certainly waded into an area of stiff competition. But, with masses of amateur pedigree, explosive power and the IBO Super-Middleweight crown to his name, Iglesias seems to be inching ever-closer to the top.

In consideration of this, who exactly could face the fearsome Cuban next?

Tyron Zeuge

The one thing Iglesias’s resume lacks so far is a recognisable name. Being based in Germany himself, it would be more than feasible for Iglesias to offer up his belt to the protected former WBA World Super Middleweight champion in a bout on German soil.

Despite having faced lesser opposition throughout his career and with a tendency to wain in the heart-department, Zeuge has experience and a name that many are familiar with, be it through his fight with British underdog Rocky Fielding (30-3) or his recent tentative showing against Zach Parker (24-1).

Iglesias would more than likely overwhelm the Berlin-based boxer, although it would certainly boost the record.

Zach Parker

Of course, along the same lines, a bout with Zach Parker could prove to be mutually beneficial.

After all, it would provide Parker with a shot at a world title, whilst also giving him the opportunity to prove himself after a fairly lax performance last time out. For Iglesias, it would boost his profile and, importantly, the bout could potentially take place on British soil; bringing Iglesias to the attention of the rowdy British fanbase, of which his style would massively appeal to.

Given Parker’s association with The Magnificent Seven line of boxing cards, the match-up could make for an enthralling future headliner for the Queensberry brand, one that could ignite, if Parker allows it.

Kevin Lele Sadjo

Similarly, Kevin Lele Sadjo (22-0) is a credible and formidable puncher with enough of a profile to add to Iglesias’s CV.

Given that the more well-known Christian Mbilli will find himself preoccupied with the ageing ‘Technician’ Sergiy Derevyanchenko (15-5), Iglesias may have a better chance at securing a bout against another menacing Frenchman.

Perhaps not as high-profile of a bout, but certainly one that promises immense fireworks nonetheless.

Erik Bazinyan

Ranked number seven by The Ring Magazine, Erik Bazinyan (32-0-1) comes off a lacklustre performance against ‘The Jamaican Juggernaut’ Shakeel Phinn (26-3-2) last May.

The long-standing holder of the North American Boxing Federation Super Middleweight and North American Boxing Association Super Middleweight titles has long since stagnated, refusing to challenge at the highest level.

With Iglesias ranked at number eight, it only makes sense for this match-up to happen, both to cement the credibility of the Canadian-based Armenian and to prove that Iglesias deserves to be amongst the best-of-the-best.

And so, at this stage in his career, Iglesias has firmly established himself amongst the mix of super middleweight experts; whilst also opening up the opportunity to face more recognised names on his way to the top.

I Always followed cuban boxing and reply to all those fallacies and generalizations about their style, only because,”the mercenary media”took Rigondeaux dismantling of Donaire,to a level of criticism, originated in Bob Arum’s frustration, and after that,Rigondeaux, was labelled as a “runner”,and since the fans, are gullible and lazy, they labelled ALL cubans boxers, following this “wrong generalization”.

Completely agree, ppl forget that Gamboa didn’t fight nothing like Rigondeaux ….or David Morell nothing like King Kong Ortiz and so on.

I already watched three fights with Iglesias KO’s that finish ,with spams,it look like his power is legit and not needing accumulation,as Benavidez or even M’Billi.
