William Zepeda, despite being the no. 1 lightweight contender for all four of boxing’s sanctioning bodies, has been in no real rush to make the biggest money fight available to him, against WBC champ Shakur Stevenson.

As a matter of fact, the undefeated Zepeda and promoter Golden Boy have, very publicly, walked away from two previous opportunities to face the skilled stylist. His team has also refused to press the WBC to enforce his mandatory challenger status, instead mentioning the fighter’s desire to spend time with his pregnant wife.

But, if reports are true, the Mexican battler may be back in the ring in November after all, pregnant wife or not.

Spanish-language boxing journalist Fernando Sabatini has reported via Twitter/X that Zepeda will be facing either George Kambosos or Tevin Farmer in Saudi Arabia on November 16.

To back up the Sabatini report, ESPN Deportes’ Salvador Rodriguez is reporting Zepeda-Kambosos as part of a larger Golden Boy card in Saudi Arabia, headlined by newly-crowned WBA cruiserweight champ Zurdo Ramírez vs WBO cruiserweight titlist Chris Billam-Smith in a unification bout. The card is also rumored to feature Jose Ramírez vs Arnold Barboza and Oscar Duarte vs. Kenneth Sims Jr.

Golden Boy founder/figurehead Oscar De La Hoya and chairman of the Saudi General Entertainment Authority, Turki Alalshikh, had hinted of a big upcoming project in recent weeks, following the announcement of a “partnership” between the Saudis and the promotional company. This may be it.

There have also been unconfirmed rumors that Zepeda may be lined up for a title shot against Stevenson in February, assuming both fighters are victorious in upcoming bouts.

Stevenson is set to fight on the Artur Beterbiev-Dmitry Bivol undercard in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia on October 12 against former super featherweight titlist Joe Cordina. The 27-year-old recently signed a 2-fight promotional deal with Eddie Hearn’s Matchroom Boxing. In a weird twist of broadcast arrangements, Stevenson’s undercard bout, along with the rest of the Beterbiev-Bivol undercard, will be broadcast via DAZN PPV while the main event will be aired exclusively by ESPN+.

In Zepeda’s last bout, this past July, he steamrolled an overmatched Giovanni Cabrera in three rounds. He did the same four months prior to Maxi Hughes, stopping the Brit in four rounds.

Zepeda-Kambosos promises to be a good action fight, although Kambosos will be coming into the contest a bit long in the tooth, following an eleventh-round TKO loss to Vasiliy Lomachenko back in May. The Australian former 3-belt lightweight champ, best known for his upset split decision win over Teofimo Lopez in 2021, has lost three of his last four contests– including a pair of decisive points losses to Devin Haney.
