Ryan Garcia’s Biggest Delusion: The Elites Are Eating Babies Or I Can Beat Terence Crawford?

Ryan Garcia has spewed more goofiness. And, well, on a slow news day, that’s the kind of stuff that gets some prime site space. It’s either that or re-posting press-released info in a “news” piece that totally reads like promotional material.

Well, this Managing Editor will always err on the side of funny (or funny-ish) hatchet jobs– with a point– over shilling for someone or some event.

Okay, then. Garcia recently appeared on the Say Cheese! YouTube channel and talked about a bunch of different issues. Full disclosure: I did NOT sit through the entire nearly 2-hour interview. I’ll take deep dives into madness, but not THAT much madness. I just skimmed through the chatter and picked up on points of interest.

One of those points was Garcia’s absolutely delusional take on 4-division world champ and current junior middleweight titlist Terence “Bud” Crawford and, specifically, how he sees himself on even terms with the pound-for-pound fighter.

“Terence Crawford really hasn’t beat anybody other than Errol Spence, who went through a car crash. Name 1 guy he beat other than Spence that’s well known,” Garcia said.

“Terence Crawford is not like that. Terence Crawford is an overhyped bum. I’m sorry but somebody has got to say it, you’re an overhyped bum I’m looking at the camera right now, you f**king suck bro.

“Stop acting like you’re like that, stop stealing boxing’s money, wasting everybody’s money, you’re not entertaining, you’re boring as f**k. Come see me in the ring if you think I’m talking s**t, I can do it anytime bro.”

As for an actual fight with Crawford? Garcia believes he would be able to account well for himself. Of course, he also believes that “elites” are eating babies for super powers and that he’s conjured demons.

“I could definitely see Crawford, what you mean?” Garcia replied, responding to a question of whether he could hang with Bud. “I was one of the best fighters in the amateurs bro, he was too, I’ve seen many fighters like him, too…I don’t give a f**k what he can take away [referring to Crawford being able to take away his left hook]. I could find a way to get him. He’s not that good, he gets hit a lot, he gets hit and gets wobbled, he’s not untouchable…he ain’t Mayweather”

Could there be some “crazy-as-a-fox” maneuvering behind Garcia’s anti-Crawford posturing? Maybe.

Crawford is reportedly looking ONLY for blockbusters and is supposedly waiting on the possibility of a big-ticket clash with Saul “Canelo” Alvarez. If he can’t get that big Canelo fight, the only blockbuster option out there could be Ryan Garcia.

It would be a smart business move for Garcia, ahead of an April return to the ring following his PEDs-related suspension, to set up a major fight for himself as a comeback event.

Like him or not– see him as bat-sh*t crazy or not– Garcia is an eyeball-magnet and has established himself as a legitimate draw when matched against the right opponent. The contrast between the nutty, self-righteous smugness of Garcia and the stoic, self-important seriousness of Crawford would make for a brilliant promotion and an explosive lead-in.

It’s more likely that Garcia was just talking out of his a**, lashing out at someone he felt had disrespected him in a previous interview.

Whatever the case, though, the thought has been put out there into the four winds of the Universo Pugilistico.
