Montreal’s boxing heartthrob, David Lemieux (23-0, 22 KOs), figured on facing the sternest test of his career via former world title challenger, Elvin Ayala (20-5-1, 9 KOs). However, Lemieux made easy work of his first “real test” by leveling Ayala in the first round and then forcing the stoppage after two subsequent knockdowns. The fight was waved off with 16 seconds to go in the first.
On the Lemieux-Ayala undercard, popular Quebec native, Sebastien Demers (31-3, 11 KOs) signed up for a solid test from an American journeyman. Instead, Brian Vera (17-4, 11 KOs), caught him cold in the third, dropped him twice in the same round, and forced referee, Marlon Wright, to stop the contest with a little over a minute left in the third.
