New week, New Grind…

* In noteworthy weekend action: Former Heavyweight champ, Hasim Rahman beat Shannon Miller via TKO 4…Exciting Lightweight/Super Featherweight prospect, Adren Broner, beat Carlos Claudio via RTD 7…Tomas Rojas won some WBC USNBC Super Flyweight trinket via RTD 6 against Felipe Almanza…Hekkie Budler beat Juanito Rubillar via 12-round Split Decision in a battle of ranked Jr. Flyweights.

* Former President of the International Amateur Boxing Association (IABA), Anwar Chowdhry, died of a heart attack at 87 years of age in his native Pakistan. Chowdhry headed the organization for nearly 20 years before being ousted from the position in 2006 for fraud. He was later banned from amateur boxing for life for mishandling hundred of dollars in federation funds.

* Before Sergio Mora signed to fight gatekeeper, JC Candelo on July 23rd, he was offered a bout with British Middleweight contender, Matthew Macklin. The issue, as always when Mora is concerned, was money. Not enough was on the table for a US bout and Golden Boy wasn’t willing to take the fight in the UK.

* RIP Manute Bol. The 7 ft 7 former NBA star passed away from a kidney ailment at the University of Virginia Hospital in Charlottesville. Bol became the a national hero in his native Sudan after spending 10 years in the NBA. His boxing ties are tenuous, but he did beat William “The Refrigerator” Perry in a televised three round Celebrity Boxing contest in 2002.

…More Grind tomorrow…
