Guadalajara, Mexico- In a Jr. Middleweight encounter, Saul “El Canelo” Alvarez (33-0-1, 25 KOs) continued his winning streak by completely tearing apart an overmatched Luciano Cuello. The Guadalajara native, Alvarez, pounded and bloodied Argentina’s Cuello throughout the encounter, breaking Cuello’s nose in the process and sending a splattering of blood to all those at ringside. Cuello was down twice in the bout: a flash knockdown in the first and a hard drop in the second, initiated by an Alvarez uppercut that almost literally lifted the Argentine off the mat.
Cuello stayed on his feet until the ref waved off the contest in the sixth, but all the highlights were made by Alvarez who put on an impressive offensive display for his hometown fans.
After the bout, Alvarez, who will turn 20 in a week, expressed his desire to go back down to 147 and win his first world title there before moving back up to 154.
