Following his razor-thin split decision loss to Zab Judah in November, jr. welterweight Lucas Matthysse (27-1, 25 KOs) returns to action in his native Argentina, January 21st against 14-year veteran, DeMarcus “Chop Chop” Corley (37-15-1, 22 KOs).
Corley is coming off an up and down 2010 where he suffered a brutal knockout at the hands of Freddy Hernandez in February, bounced back to upset Damian Fuller in July, and dropped a one-sided unanimous decision to Serhiy Fedchenko in November. He also battled Argentina’s Marcos Maidana to a much closer than anticipated unanimous decision loss in August.
The 36-year old former world champ, Corley, has been in the ring with a who’s who of quality jr.welters and welters such as Floyd Mayweather jr., Miguel Cotto, Zab Judah and Devon Alexander. He has become an opponent du jour over the last two years, fighting 10 times (5-5, 4 KOs) and competing in countries such as Kazakhstan, Russia, Argentina, The Ukraine, as well as The United States.
Matthysse is looking to stay active and in the championship picture after his controversial loss to Judah which saw him send the former two-division champ to the canvas in the tenth.
