Saul “El Canelo” Alvarez (35-0-, 26 KOs), Golden Boy’s 20-year old prospect from Jalisco, Mexico, will be taking on the UK’s Matthew Hatton (41-4-2, 16 KOs), March 5th at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California.
Alvarez, who beat Lovemore N’dou via unanimous decision in his last outing, fought 5 times in 2010 against a moderate level of opposition, including Carlos Baldomir, Jose Cotto, and N’dou.
Hatton, who was long considered “just” Ricky Hatton’s kid brother, has gone 8-0-1 in his last nine. Hatton hit his career high-water mark in July of last year with a unanimous decision win over Yuriy Nuzhnenko for the European Welterweight title.
Alvarez-Hatton will headline an HBO Boxing After Dark telecast.
On the undercard, exciting prospect, Adrien Broner (19-0, 16 KOs), featured last year in The Boxing Tribune’s “The Under 21 Club: Boxing’s 10 Best Underage Warriors,” is tentatively scheduled to make his HBO debut.
