Russian WBO middleweight champion, Dmitry Pirog (17-0, 14 KOs) will make the first defense of the title he won by knocking out Daniel Jacobs in July of last year. Amidst rumors involving Ishe Smith and Bronco McKart, Pirog finally settled on Argentina’s Javier Francisco Maciel (18-1, 12 KOs) as an opponent.
The title fight is booked for March 26th in Pirog’s native Russia.
Maciel is ranked ninth by the WBO, but has never fought outside of Argentina and has only fought regional/national-level opposition.
