Dawson-Diaconu on Pascal-Hopkins Undercard, May 21

Former Light Heavyweight champ, Chad Dawson (29-1, 17 KOs), brings new trainer, Emanuel Steward, into somewhat of a title elimination match against Romanian fringe contender, Adrian Diaconu (27-2, 15 KOs) on the May 21st Jean Pascal-Bernard Hopkins II undercard.

Dawson, who dropped a technical decision to Pascal in August of last year, is temporarily stepping aside from his mandatory rematch with Pascal to allow the WBC-mandated Hopkins-Pascal re-do.

Diaconu, coming off a tougher than expected unanimous decision win over Omar Sheika in October, is a tough pressure fighter, currently ranked 17th in The Boxing Tribune light heavyweight rankings.

The winner of Dawson-Diaconu will face the winner of the Pascal-Hopkins rematch next.

The venue for this HBO-telecast double header has yet to be officially announced, but it’s likely to be in either Quebec City, Quebec or Montreal.
