Arum: “Cotto Will Fight Margarito Next”

Speaking to Al Bernstein of The Boxing Channel, Top Rank CEO, Bob Arum said that Miguel Cotto will be meeting Antonio Margarito next in a rematch of their 2008 contest.

“The Margarito fight is not only likely, it’s going to be his (Cotto’s) next fight…in July, either the ninth or the sixteenth,” Arum told Bernstein following Cotto’s twelfth round stoppage of Ricardo Mayorga on Saturday night.

The first Cotto-Margarito bout ended with Cotto taking a knee in the eleventh round after sustaining a brutal beating at the hands of the Mexican.

However, a shadow was cast on the result after Margarito was caught attempting to enter the ring with doctored hand wraps in his next bout against Shane Mosley.

Cotto-Mayorga II would likely be for Cotto’s WBA jr. middleweight title.
