Showtime’s ShoBox series features two fighters on two seemingly different paths Friday, June 10th at the Chumash Casino in Santa Ynez, California.
One fighter, Nigeria’s Lateef Kayode (16-0, 14 KOs), is on the rise while the other, Matt Godfrey (20-2, 10 KOs) is coming off his most painful loss.
When Godfrey was last seen, he was being pummeled in a TKO 5 loss to WBO cruiserweight champ, Marco Huck. Taking criticism for an overall passive performance, many assumed that it would be the Providence, Rhode Island native’s last main stage opportunity, at least for a long while.
On the other hand, Kayode, with trainer Freddy Roach at his side, has gotten several showcase opportunities on Showtime and has watched his stock in the cruiserweight division rise steadily with each performance.
On the undercard, jr. featherweight prospect, Chris Avalos (18-1, 15 KOs) will be taking on fellow prospect, the undefeated Jenifel Vicente (21-0-1, 14 KOs) of the Dominican Republic and lightweight prospect, Archie Ray Marquez (12-0, 8 KOs) is set to meet Armenia-born, Art Hovhannesyan (13-0-1, 7 KOs).
