Team Pacquiao Offers Juan Manuel Marquez October Date

According to Golden Boy Promotions CEO, Richard Schaefer, Top Rank has sent over a formal offer to Juan Manuel Marquez in an attempt to secure an October date for a third Pacquiao-Marquez clash, this time for Pacquiao’s WBO welterweight title.

Further details were not released, but it was revealed that a rematch clause was part of the proposed deal.

Marquez, the reigning lightweight champion of the world, is currently a promotional free agent, but has been considering a multi-fight deal offered to him by his former promoter, Golden Boy, who still has the right to match any offers made to the Mexican three-division champ until February of next year.

Sources in Mexico have Marquez favoring the Pacquiao offer, which would be a much more lucrative fight than the Zab Judah bout offered to him as part of a deal with Golden Boy.

Manny Pacquiao and Juan Manuel Marquez have had two tightly-contested, action-packed bouts in the past resulting in a 2004 draw at featherweight and a close split decision in Pacquiao’s favor at super featherweight four years later.

Manny Pacquiao is currently in training for a May 7th bout against Shane Mosley at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
