WBA light heavyweight titlist Beibut Shumenov (11-1, 7 KOs) will defend his title against former title contender Danny Santiago (31-4-1, 19 KOs) at the South Point Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada, Friday July 29. The 12-round title bout will be shown on Telefutura’s Solo Boxeo series.

Shumenov won his WBA strap in only his 10th professional fight, avenging a close majority decision loss to then-WBA titlist Gabriel Campillo. Shumenov, who only fought 2 four-round fights and 1 six-round fight before stepping up to 12-round fights. Shumenov last fought in Kasakhstan in January, scoring a 6-round KO victory over William Joppy.

Santiago twice challenged for light heavyweight titles in 2007, losing by knockout to Zsolt Erdei and Antonio Tarver. Two wins in two years against club-level opposition has earned Santiago the number 15 rating by the WBA, allowing his approval as Shumenov’s opponent.
