This Saturday in Denver, Colorado, hometown boxer Mike Alvarado will defend his WBC Continental Americas light welterweight title and attempt to add a vacant IBF Latino light welterweight title to his trophy case when he takes on Mexico’s Gabriel Martinez.
Alvarado (30-0-0, 22 KOs) is coming off a successful performance in May, a step-up fight on the Manny Pacquiao-Shane Mosley undercard against Ray Narh. Alvarado was granted the TKO victory when Narh refused to answer the bell to start the fourth round.
Martinez (27-2-1, 14 KOs) will be moving down from the 147 pound weight class, where he lost his last fight to Mark Jason Melligen in February. His only other career loss was at the hands of Mexican sensation Saul “Canelo” Alvarez in 2008.
The bout is scheduled for ten rounds and will be held at Denver’s Softball Country Arena. Ticket information can be accessed by calling (303) 450-9763.
