Jr. middleweight contender Alfredo “Perro” Angulo (19-1, 16 KOs) will return to action this Saturday, August 20 at the Nido Sports Center in Nido, Mexcali, Baja. After more than 13 months since his last fight, Angulo will take on Joseph Gomez (17-4-1, 8 KOs).
Immigration problems have kept Angulo out since last July, when he knocked out former titlist Joachim Alcine in one round. Prior to his inactivity, Angulo was a possible contender in line for the WBC title jr. middleweight title. The WBC has ordered a title eliminator between Angulo and Vanes Martirosyan to decide the number 1 contender to champion Saul Alvarez. If victorious on Saturday, Angulo and his new promotional team, Golden Boy Promotions, will likely be looking to lock in a date for a fight with Martirosyan.
Gomez, a club fighter from New Mexico, will be making his first start in a 12-round fight and against championship-caliber opposition. Including his loss in February, Gomez has lost 3 of his last 4.
