2008 American Olympian Deontay Wilder will continue his professional career in his home town of Tuscaloosa, Alabama on Saturday night. Wilder will be facing journeyman Dominique Alexander of Topeka, Kansas.
Wilder (17-0-0, 17 KOs) won a bronze medal in 2008 despite having very little amateur experience, and is considered one of the few bright spots on a rather bleak landscape of American heavyweight prospects. In his last outing Wilder faced his most experienced opponent to date in Damon Reed and won by second round knockout.
Alexander (20-11-1, 9 KOs) will enter the ring a significant underdog having been knocked out in five of his last seven fights. He has faced the better opposition of the two men, but has been stopped early in fights with established contenders such as Shannon Briggs and Odlanier Solis.
The bout is scheduled for six rounds and will take place at Tuscaloosa’s Water Oaks Farm Arena.
