So this week at The Boxing Tribune, our writing assignments for a packed boxing weekend were doled out. My husband picked up two, one being Chris Arreola vs. Raphael Butler. The minute I see it, I can’t help but groan in disgust. You’re still here Arreola?
Really?
A day later, being the wonderful wife that I am, I offered to do the research for my husband’s assignments. I looked at the assignment just to groan again. As if I wasn’t irritated enough just to see Arreola’s name on a boxing schedule, now I am also going to research his career for a news blurb.
Crap.
Thirty minutes of research later and all my feelings for Arreola are justified.
Here is a chronicle of my thirty minute journey…
First, I visit BoxRec.com to see an Arreola career record that boasts 33 wins and only 2 losses. And 28 of his wins have been knockouts. Have I falsely accused Arreola of being a bum all this time?
In fact, I have not. This can be seen in the following diatribe:
So, Arreola, you only have two losses? And those are against highly ranked fighters Vitali Klitschko and Tomasz Adamek? Not too shabby. And you have won your last five fights? Not bad at all.
But wait a minute…your last fight was against Friday Ahunanya who is 39 years old and holds a record of 24-8-3. The fight before that was against Kendrick Releford who is 22-15-2. And it goes on from there…five consecutive fights where, when the opponent’s name was mentioned, most fight fans would say…“who?”
You sit in the heavyweight division, ranked in the top ten, and yet I am unable to find anyone you’ve defeated ranked even in the top twenty. Nice work Arreola. Way to come back from losing probably the most important fight in your career to prove yourself.
Years back you came on the heavyweight scene and people were excited. I sat back, along with everyone else, hopeful to see someone bring some action into this division. Instead we got you: an out of shape goon who doesn’t have what it takes to take on the best in the division (which really isn’t even all that great Arreola).
So, Chris Arreola, I’ll say it again: just go away already.
